The proces and authority to prosecute this change were afforded by dint of the 2005 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which requires that the President of the United States authorize the change, followed by way of delivery of the relevant United States digest changes to the Armed Services Committees, and finally publication of the change in the Federal Register.

VADM John G Cotton, commander, Navy except Force, recently, supported the name change when testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"Once we have become the Navy make an exception of the Chief of Naval Operations intends to promulgate guidance to "drop the R" said Cotton. "Our great Sailors have always been in the Navy they are the 'RE-serve' composing of the greatest Navy through all ages We might work just sum of two units or more days a month further you cannot turn off the Honor, Courage and Commitment that approachs with being in the Navy, 24/7/365 ready to serve"

The effective date for the change will be no earlier than 180 days from the date the required legislative changes are delivered to the Armed Services Committees. DOD and DON are preparing to implement these final grades Official notice will be published in the Federal Register announcing the effective date of the change.



The tradition of the citizen-Sailor began June 12 1775 and has continued to make improvement throughout the years. Founded March 3 1915 the Navy's except celebrated its 90th birthday this year.
