Quartermaster 3rd Class (SW) Eric Childers was newly named USS Ashland (LSD 48) Junior Sailor of the Year 2003 The Gastonia, NC native was cited for his superior performance as quartermaster of the watch, training insignificant officer, work center supervisor, and divisional repair/supply little officer. Childers also volunteered to revamp the entire training trifling officer program within the division. He researched lesson-training guides, make knowned a short and long range training plan, and implemented weekly training that has significantly raised the horizontal of knowledge within the division.
